When renting a car there is a question at least as important as the price, and it is rarely asked: "How is this car insured?" This article explains what dedicated rental-car insurance is, how it differs from ordinary policies, and what to ask before you rent.
How is it different from ordinary insurance?
Mandatory traffic insurance covers the other party's damage in an accident — not the damage to the car you are driving. And most personal comprehensive policies become void when the car is rented out. In other words, "the car has insurance" may not protect you at all as a renter. Rental-car insurance exists exactly for this gap: it is written specifically for commercial rental use and covers damage during the renter's use.
How does it protect you as the renter?
Crash an uninsured rental and the repair bill becomes a negotiation — in the middle of your holiday. With a properly insured rental car the process is defined: a report is filed, the damage is handled under the coverage, and you continue on your way. On winding, foggy routes like the highland roads, that peace of mind is priceless.
Where does A.N.T stand?
Simple: all nine cars in our fleet carry rental-car insurance. From the economical Clio to the 9-seat Trafic minibus, there are no exceptions. For 25 years we have done this business the surprise-free way.
Three questions to ask before renting
- Is the car covered by rental-car insurance, and what is the excess?
- If there is damage, how does the process work and who do I contact?
- Can I get the terms in writing?
A company that answers these three clearly is a company you can trust. Our answers are on the FAQ page, and what to check at pickup is covered in our pickup checklist.
